GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA Nov 20, 2012: Australia’s Gold Coast is one step closer to delivering the world’s first continuous wave pool with global fund manager, LM Investment Management (LM) engaging AECOM and Cox Rayner to progress the Maddison Estate Surf Precinct, featuring a Kelly Slater Surf Experience.

AECOM is undertaking a domestic and international tourism and feasibility study, whilst Cox Rayner is the lead architect for the precinct.

The A$1 billion Maddison Estate is located in a government gazetted growth corridor on the northern Gold Coast, and anchors the LM Managed Performance Fund.  On completion, it will be home to more than 4,500 residents.  LM, headquartered on the Gold Coast, holds an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding with the Kelly Slater Wave Company for its prototype wave park.

LM Chief Executive, Peter Drake says the appointment of AECOM and Cox Rayner is a natural progression for Maddison Estate’s “best of the best” team in their respective fields.

“We have proudly formed associations with experts from every corner of the globe.  Knight Frank as global selling agent, Jamie Durie for world class landscape design, and Olympic medallists Natalie Cook and Samantha Riley to operate commercial beach volleyball and swimming centres.  With AECOM we can accurately assess the benefits this project of state significance will have on tourism, and with Cox Rayner, we will deliver a world class tourist destination to draw surfers, property owners and holiday makers from around the globe.”

“We are situated only a stone’s throw from Australia’s best theme parks.  Now we are one step closer to delivering a surf destination with the stamp of approval from Kelly Slater, the world’s best surfer.  This could well be the back yard of those lucky enough to live at Maddison Estate”, says Drake.

AECOM Associate Director Planning, Dylan Porter adds the Kelly Slater Wave Park is a fantastic asset that will further enhance global appeal for the world class tourism experiences already on the Gold Coast.

“This comes at a time when there is really a ground swell for change on the Gold Coast, promoted by state and local government.  There is renewed international interest and appetite for investment into tourism ventures and other major residential development, including the completed Hilton Hotel, proposed Jewel Resort development and a new world class casino.  The Kelly Slater Wave Company brand will further reinforce the Gold Coast’s position as a leading tourism destination on the world stage”, says Porter.

“We will be working to ensure that a robust market and feasibility analysis is undertaken to support the project, and that it is benchmarked against international standards in terms of quality tourist experiences.”

Cox Rayner Director, Michael Rayner says its appointment is one of global significance and will add a further string to its bow of designing acclaimed projects for the benefit of the immediate and wider community.

Cox Rayner is a renowned urban, commercial and tourism architectural firm, and is currently designing the 2018 Commonwealth Games Aquatic Centre.  AECOM is a Fortune 500 company with clients in more than 130 countries.  LM has successfully financed A$3 billion for prime Australian property assets, and with 9 global offering with Australian only assets, receives investment inflows via a licensed intermediary network spanning over 70 countries.
